The Government recently announced Skills Bootcamps. If you want to become an HGV driver, would like to return to lorry driving or maybe you would like to upgrade your licence or qualifications, this could be the best training for you.

What are HGV Skills Bootcamps?
Skills Bootcamps are training courses funded by the Department of Education. HGV Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses lasting for up to 16 weeks. They are suitable for new to heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driving or those who want to return to driving as an HGV driver. You can also take a course to upgrade your licence or qualifications.
How much do they cost?
The Skills Bootcamps are FREE and include all of the costs for:
- getting a provisional licence, including your medical exam
- taking each of the 4 Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) tests, and one re-sit per test
Who can apply?
You can apply if you:
- are 19 or older
- have a full car (category B) driving licence
If you are new to HGV driving, these courses will help you become a qualified heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver and get the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
If you’ve got a full car licence or medium-sized vehicle licence (category C1), these Skills Bootcamps will help you qualify to drive either:
- a rigid HGV (category C) – these are used for lots of commercial deliveries throughout the UK,
- an articulated lorry (category C+E) – these have two parts (the cab and the trailer the cab is pulling) and are mainly used in long-distance haulage or for the movement of large volumes of items as well as bulky or heavy goods

HGV Skills Bootcamps in Northamptonshire
There are lots of HGV Skills Bootcamps available in Northamptonshire.

- 35 hours of Driver CPC training
- Free medical assessment and application
- In-cab familiarisation training including driving an automatic
- Digital tachograph card
