The success of the Christmas act of kindness

January 13th, 2021

The bigger picture

This Christmas was not like any other Christmas we had before. Not only because of COVID-19 restrictions but also due to Brexit chaos and French borders being closed. We saw the lorries queuing for miles to get through the border. We saw lorries being directed to the airports for a long wait. These events made many people show more goodwill to the stranded HGV drivers.

We all heard the news about volunteers visiting the drivers and giving them hot food on the roads where they have been waiting for days. We saw the videos on Facebook showing communities coming together and donating food to the drivers stranded in their trucks at the airports with no access to food nor facilities.

It was great to see the support from local communities, different nationalities, and charities. They showed so much kindness to our Road heroes and supported them in a very selfless, compassionate way during these chaotic events. Some of these drivers will remember the kindness they received for a long time.

NN1 Personnel’s Christmas campaign

Last year, which is no longer than a month ago, NN1 Personnel organised a ‘Christmas act of kindness‘ in Northamptonshire. Our team, as well as a few good-hearted souls, visited some truck stops as well as lone trucks in a lay-by in the area. We spread some festive cheer and food for the truck drivers that were spending their Christmas on the road – in their trucks.

The reactions of the HGV drivers – both men and women were absolutely mesmerizing. The smile on their faces and their gratitude for the little bit of kindness from strangers was very heart-warming.

We wouldn’t be able to do it without your support and kind donations. We managed to raise £350 through the GoFundMe page last month. Some of our drivers and clients also donated food and basic items that we distributed among the drivers. Canned food, beer, sandwiches, fruits, sweet treats….are just some of the items the drivers received from us.

BIG THANK YOU to all of you who supported our case and put a smile on some of the HGV heroes in the area.

2020 – the year of kindness

2020 was a very tough year with a very chaotic ending. However, it was definitely a year of kindness and goodwill to all. There were even more Christmas acts of kindness that we could hope for, so our campaign was without a doubt a huge success.

We at NN1 Personnel are going to follow our tradition and organise the Christmas act of kindness campaign again in 2021. But what we are hoping for is that the circumstances will change for the better. That is our wish to you and to ourselves. Happy New Year!
